South Africa is a very beautiful country!
The Republic of South Africa is the most economically developed country on the
African continent.
It consists of an above average road network covering an area of 1.219.912 km.
You will find some of the best hotels in the world, wonderful guest houses and
B&B’s and other accommodation.
South Africa’s coastline covers about 3.000km and lies between the Atlantic and
the Indian Ocean. There are many contrasting landscapes, desert areas,
subtropical forest, mountains as well as various nature reserves with abundant
wild life.

Languages:
South Africa has 12 official languages of which English is the main language.
Currency:
The South African Rand (ZAR). It is a good idea to only change currency once you
have arrived in South Africa (it’s cheaper).
Credit cards (Mastercard/Visa/Eurocard/American Express) are widely accepted in
banks, shops and restaurants. Also ATM’s (automated teller machines) are readily
available. Unfortunately, acquiring fuel (petrol and diesel) can only be paid in
cash.
Value added tax:
Currently the value added tax (VAT) is 14%. Tax refund is possible at the
airport when leaving the country.

Passports
Please ensure that your passport does not expire for at least 6 month when
arriving in South Africa. Also ensure that your passport will at least have one
free page for stamping by custom and airport officials.
Gratuity
In South Africa it is custom to tip any aid or assistant, this would amount to
roughly 10% or 15% of your bill.
